TAPOO
MA Material Futures
x Design Museum, London
The Everyday Martian is a series created by MA Material Futures of Central Saint Martins in collaboration with the Design Museum London as part of their 'Moving to Mars' exhibition. This immersive theatre explored alternative visions of what life on Mars might be like - from questioning the rituals of death, experience of going to a bar to the everyday toilet routine.
On Mars, everything is different and all resources are precious, even human waste. TAPOO (Technologies of Alternative Planetary Orificial Output) speculates on the technologies needed for a toilet and material potential of human waste. After the output is sucked out by vacuum, a specially designed algorithm determines the quality of the human's waste and segregates it to be used either for food production, energy creation or as building material.
